ABSTRACT:
A 2 page paper discussing adolescents’ increasing tendency to choose for reading scary stories that are fun to read, such as those in the Goosebumps series. Because the books broach topics that may be unsuitable for a public school classroom, students can read them for pleasure without worrying that a teacher will ask for a book report or turn the book into some other project. Generally ending in a values lesson, the books lose their appeal as the student matures. Bibliography lists 1 source.
